Who is the ICB?

Who and what are we?

The ICB is an Independent External Examination body – we assess competency. This is important, as it means that we are NOT a training provider and we DON’T run the courses or provide training materials.  Our Accredited Colleges do that.
ICB has been in operation sine 1931 as an Examination Body and conduct various examinations over the years. For those on the NQF path up until 2027/2028 we run examinations on behalf of the QCTO for the qualifications. For new students since 1 July 2024 we run examinations endorsed by IQB – www.iqb.org.uk for the international endorsement and the Professional International Certification.
In order for our Programmes to be delivered, we have about 500 Approved Training Providers, who are all registered with the DHET (Department of Education and Higher Training), to run ICB courses and training for our programmes.

Before getting started, there are 3 big decisions, that will determine how you join the programme.
Please take some time to go through these:

  • What to study (which of the courses will suit you)
  • How to study (classroom, correspondence, full/part time, etc.)
  • Where to study (ICB accredited training providers)
  • How to get started(step-by-step instructions on how to get started)

Once you have decided on a course, we highly recommend that you enrol via one of our accredited Training Providers. The easiest way to connect with a possible Training Provider is to use our “FIND A PROVIDER” function on the website.
Simply click here for a full list of providers, choose a few colleges close to you, and ask them to send you options and a free quote!

If you decide to rather register with us directly, you can simply click through to the Student Portal from the website, and:
  1. Create a student Profile (no payment needed)
  2. Register with the ICB as a student (Registration Fee payable)
  3. Enter for exams
  4. Pay your ICB fees using a credit card or instant EFT.
After registration, you will receive confirmation emails and guidance on the next steps.

After you have completed an ICB course, there are various routes thereafter.  For more information on the different routes, click here.
