Why choose the ICB?
The ICB (Institute of Certified Bookkeepers) is an independent external examination body responsible for assessing competency. This distinction is important because we are not a training provider—we do not run courses or supply training materials. Instead, our Accredited Colleges handle course delivery and training.
Operating since 1931, ICB has conducted various examinations over the years. For those following the NQF pathway, we will continue running examinations on behalf of the QCTO until 2027/2028. From 1 July 2024, new students will take ICB examinations endorsed by IQB (www.iqb.org.uk), ensuring international recognition and professional certification.
To facilitate our programmes, we collaborate with 500+ Approved Training Providers, all registered with the DHET (Department of Higher Education and Training), to offer ICB-accredited courses and training.
How are the fees calculated?
The package is made up of ICB fee’s which start from R1415 (for annual registration and one exam), study material is purchased independently via the Publishers and the tuition fee’s may vary whether a student opts for self study or through a college. If through a college there will be different options for Distance or Face to Face students.
What are the various study options?
Students have the option to follow the Self-Study route, where they purchase their own study material, study at their own pace, and only pay for the ICB exams when ready. This is a flexible and cost-effective way to earn an ICB qualification.
Alternatively, students can choose to study through one of our accredited colleges, where they have the option of Distance Learning or Face-to-Face classes, depending on their learning preference and schedule.

You can choose where to study – There are over 500 ICB accredited training providers to choose from and our business courses are available throughout Southern Africa.
Our accredited providers offer classroom-based learning or distance learning – or both.
