Bookkeeping certificate boosts entrepreneur's business

As the owner and sole employee of Group Sports Travel, Adrienne Pollock realised it was important that she understood and could perform basic bookkeeping and accounting tasks in her business. So she signed up for the ICB's Certified Junior Bookkeeper (CJBIcb(SA)) course through Damelin West Rand.

"After completing this course, I am applying my new-found knowledge on a daily basis," Adrienne says. "Previously I had very basic knowledge of bookkeeping, but I now feel so confident with the skills I have acquired that I am also able to assist my husband, by doing the bookkeeping for his IT company."

Completing this course is just one of Adrienne's achievements this year. For the second consecutive year, her company was named the winner in the category of Established Tour Operators at the 2008 West Rand Tourism Awards.

"Receiving recognition from one's peers is always rewarding. My clients can now rest assured that they are dealing with a reputable company - a leader in the industry."

Adrienne says of Damelin West Rand: "I experienced professional and efficient service from the staff when registering; the campus was always clean and the lecturers were qualified and helpful. The course was generally well-structured."

Enjoying applying her new-found knowledge in her daily life, Adrienne encourages prospective learners not to be afraid of taking on new challenges. "For any women considering going it alone - do it!" she says.

In the picture above, Adrienne receives her awards from the Executive Mayor of the West Rand District Municipality, Alderman Faith Matshikiza.
