Bursary winner: A letter from Mazvita Mwanaka

Dear ICB

My name is Mazvita Mwanaka. I am hereby applying for a bursary due to insufficient funds.

I completed my Advanced Level in 2006 in Zimbabwe. In 2007 I was accepted to the University of Zimbabwe, but I could not register due to a lack of money.

I relocated to South Africa in 2008 to try and make a living. I started working as a domestic to support myself and my three young siblings. But living on a small salary is extremely hard, so I applied to UNISA in 2012. Unfortunately I couldn't register due to insufficient funds.

Then my cousin advised me to register for a bookkeeping course with the ICB. So I did. I registered at MSC College for two modules and passed. Again, I couldn't afford the last two modules in 2012. But in 2013 I had a contract job in administration and managed to register for the remaining two modules. I passed them as well.

I currently hold your Junior Bookkeeping Certificate, but no funds to proceed with my studies as I'm unemployed. I am 29 years old, and my goal is to complete my Honours Degree before I turn 33. I want to pursue my dream career and not divert.

Kind regards,
Mazvita
