Overview

The aim of the CertIR™ is to develop knowledge, understanding and application of the review engagement standard (ISRE 2400), as well as the international standard on quality control (ISQC1).

The CertIR™ is a qualification which is flexible to your timetable. It enables you to fit your studies around your work and social commitments, and can be completed in a period of 4 months.

The prerequisite knowledge for the CertIR™ is a relevant degree and two years’ experience in preparing working papers and issuing reports on financial statements.

This is an assessed course, which includes a multiple-choice examination recognised by the Southern African Institute of Business Accountants (SAIBA) - allowing you to obtain a Practicing Licence in Independent Review Engagements.

Purpose

  • To provide evidence that qualifying accountants and auditors are competent to perform independent review engagements.
  • Help you understand how ISRE 2400 are used around the world.
  • Examine how ISQC1 applies to independent review engagements.
  • Examine the fundamental requirements of ISRE 2400 on a topic-by-topic basis.
  • Explain how independence requirements apply to review engagements.
  • Identify the duties and responsibilities of the Independent reviewers.
  • Provide guidance on how to use ISRE 2400 in practice with the aid of questions, cases and exercises.

Course method and delivery

The course will start on 1 April 2012 and close 31 July 2012. Applicants are required to attend 3 seminars between April and July 2012, and study the text book during this time. The online assessment must be completed before the end of July 2012.

The certificate course consists of the following:

  • Three seminars (4 hours each). Each seminar focuses on a specific aspect of ISRE 2400.
    • Seminar 1 - Quality Control and Acceptance Procedures.
    • Seminar 2 - Inquiry and Analytical Procedures.
    • Seminar 3 - Finalising and reporting on the review.
  • The text book, "Principles and Practices of Independent Review Engagements".
  • Example quality control manual for review engagements.
  • Access to example working papers.
  • A demo version of the Draftworx automated working paper file on CD.
  • Online assessment.

Registration for the CertIR closes on 28 March 2012.

CPD

Successful completion of the course entitles students to 33 hours of structured CPD points. This consists of:

  • 20 points for working through the course material, 
  • 12 points for attending the three half-day seminars,
  • and 5 points for completing the online examination. 

The ACCA CPD policy is compliant with IFAC IES7 and is recognised by SAICA, SAIPA, SAIBA, IAC, CIS and others.

  • Non-members = R5,540.00
