FAQ
How long does an application for Prior Learning take?
The ICB has a Prior Learning Evaluation Committee which meets bi-weekly (twice a month). All applications received between these meetings will be evaluated by the Committee where after the administrative team at the ICB Head Office will compile the required documentation for completion by the prospective learner.
How do I apply for these credits?
Should you have previous training at an accredited training provider you are required to forward certified copies of your results to the ICB for evaluation.
If you have work experience, you may apply for credits based on your work experience. You will be required to complete the required Portfolio of Evidence (PoE) supplied by the ICB. Once you have completed this PoE you will need to send this back to the ICB for evaluation.
Please submit your application for exemptions to the ICB with together with the prescribed Exemption Review Fee of R 300.00 per application.
What is Recognition of Prior Learning or Accredited Prior Learning?
Recognition or Accreditation of Prior Learning is the new terminology for the granting of exemptions or credits for past achievements either through previous studies at an accredited institution or recognition of past work experience.
How long is the programme?
The ICB’s 3 qualifications can be completed within an 18 month period. Each learning area should take approximately 48 hours to study the material prior to the assessment being written.
Once registered for the assessment may I postpone my entry?
Once you have been registered for an assessment, you may only postpone your entry upon receipt by the ICB of a request for postponement detailing why you require the postponement. Doctor’s certificates are required to be submitted in cases of illness.
Applications for postponement are required to reach the ICB offices before the original assessment date (except in cases of illness) and the application must indicate as to which assessment date has been selected.
Learners may only postpone their assessment entry once.
